Much of the Moray Firth coastline has long been part of the North Coast 500 , but the southern edge of the firth has been much more untouched by tourism. Canyoning in Scotland with the highlight a 45-foot abseil down an impressive corkscrew waterfall. From cool calm waters that meander toward a sudden precipice stand at the edge of a spiraling 45-foot waterfall and descend a seemingly impenetrable gorge. Moray Coastal Trail. Beginning in Findhorn and ending in Cullen, the Moray Coast Trail is one of Scotland’s beautiful long-distance walking routes. The 50 mile (80 km) route traces the coastline of Moray Speyside and is split into sections, so you can choose between tackling the whole route (3 – 5 days recommended for this) or picking a section for a day walk. I was keen to go back on my most recent visit to Moray to get a proper look at the 7m tall Pictish slab which is the tallest and most complex piece of medieval sculpture in Scotland.

‘Up there’ on the shore of the Moray Firth. Well, it’s pretty unspoilt, down by the sea. And dry. The little resort town of Lossiemouth, for instance, has 672.7mm of rain per year. (That’s 26.5 inches in old money.) Average for the whole of Scotland is 1571mm (61.8 inches). The Met Office says so.

Feedback Nairn’s greatest asset is its marvellous sandy beach and makes for the perfect family holiday: sand castles, lovely promenade walks (ideal for wheel-chairs), putting green, crazy golf, leisure park and a swimming pool – all set against the backdrop of the Moray Firth with its wonderful views and a chance to see the famous Moray Firth dolphins.
